Michel Desgrottes (1923-1993) is a Haitian musician that relocated to Martinique in the 1960's, he was responsible for introducing the Antilles to vocalists like Gary French and Louis Lahens. He recorded with the hit parade label as well as that of Henri Debs. Desgrottes was called the doctor of rhythm, he was given this name because of his incredible ability to compose and arrange various genres of music like, chacha, mambo, bolero, compas direct, cadence rampas etc...
Henri Debs wasted no time recording Michel Desgrottes with a band of the best Guadeloupean musicians and Desgrottes selected a talented young seventeen year-old vocalist by the name of Emile Volel to sing with the band. Emile Volel (1945-1999) had left Haiti at the age of sixteen or seventeen, he performed regularly in Guadeloupe and was very well liked.
All of this information can be heard in the video below. Radio host Mano further goes on to Desgrottes as a miracle worker in the studio, he backs this up by describing an incident where Michel broke a bottle and used a portion of it to play his guitar like a Hawaiian lap steel guitar. This song can be heard in it's entirety toward the end of the video.
